REDDING, Calif. — The lack of primary care physicians and family doctors in the Redding area is pretty well documented. A local gastroenterologist says the number of specialists is dwindling too.

Dr. Paul Dhanuka says Redding has been a medical hub, serving patients from the North Coast to southern Oregon. But he says he’s seen specialists leave because of high inflation, low reimbursement, and excessive state red tape.
